The reopening of the southbound lanes of South Boulevard between Greystone and Clanton roads was delayed for a second time Monday, rerouting outbound traffic throughout the morning.
That section of the road is now scheduled to remain closed until after rush hour Monday, according to Charlotte Department of Transportation. Both outbound lanes in the 3300 block of South Boulevard were closed Monday.
Outbound traffic can detour around the closure along Remount Road, South Tryon Street and Clanton Road. Bus service will be affected.
Lane closures on South Boulevard were planned over two weekends for construction on and near the Lynx Blue Line. Crews were installing new storm drains under the tracks, repaving and marking the road, said Judy Dellert-O’Keef, CDOT community engagement manager.
Crews were also working on grade crossing panels, which are installed where cars cross the tracks. Sediment collected on the panels and needed to be removed, said Krystel Green, a spokeswoman for Charlotte Area Transit System.
“You don’t know that until you get them out,” Green said of the sediment. “We had to clean all of that out. We want to make sure we put everything back properly.”
The first closure was scheduled from 11:30 p.m. April 29 through 6 a.m. May 2. The second closure was scheduled for 11:30 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday.
CDOT sent out new notices early Monday saying the road block would be extended until noon. Shortly before noon notice arrived that the lanes would remain blocked until later Monday, with no specific time given.
