Current salaries for employees of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and area charter schools are now posted at the Observer’s database page.

The salary look-up for public employees is traditionally updated during the spring budget season. CMS, the county’s second-largest employer, has 18,650 employees.

The Observer also filed public record requests for salaries at 33 charter schools serving Mecklenburg County students, including some in surrounding counties. Charter schools, which are run by independent boards, can take students across county lines.

This is the first update to the charter school list since 2014, when several charter schools fought to keep the information private. The N.C. General Assembly eventually clarified that charter schools are subject to the same disclosure requirements as other public bodies, though it allowed the schools to withhold salaries for some employees of private management companies that operate charter schools.
