Man hit while crossing Monroe Road dies of injuries

A man hit by an SUV while crossing Monroe Road April 19 died of his injuries Monday at Carolinas Medical Center, police said.

Wayne Hilton Ivey, 58, was crossing in an area with no crosswalk or pedestrian stop-and-go signal when he darted in front of the SUV about 1:30 p.m., police said. The SUV was northbound in the 7800 block.

Neither speed nor alcohol contributed on the driver’s part to the collision, police said. The driver, who was uninjured, was not charged.
