Man, 75, pronounced dead after east Charlotte wreck

A 75-year-old man was pronounced dead after a wreck in east Charlotte Monday night.

Police said Ralph Clark Black was driving an SUV that sideswiped an oncoming pickup truck in the 4500 block of Shamrock Drive about 7:30 p.m.

Black’s 2013 Chevrolet Equinox then ran off the road, hit a utility pole and then a storage building in the 4400 block of Gainesborough Road, police said. Medic paramedics pronounced Black dead at the scene. Charlotte firefighters also responded.

No one else was injured, police said.

Police said the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors, police said.

Anyone with information about the wreck is asked to call Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Detective J.B. Reibold at 704-336-2678.
