Woman, 55, dies after car crashes into pole on Brookshire Boulevard

Police are trying to determine why a 55-year-old driver veered off Brookshire Boulevard Thursday night and hit a large pole.

Regina Paulette Strange was pronounced dead at the scene by Medic paramedics.

Police said neither speed nor alcohol appear to have contributed to the wreck.

Strange’s 2008 Suzuki Forenza sedan ran off the road about 7:15 p.m. in the 3500 block, near Centre Street, police said. The car hit a pole for the overhead signs that say, “Interstate 85 ahead.”

Witnesses told police the car drove onto the shoulder several times before crashing.

Anyone with information about the wreck is asked to call Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Detective R.C. Gormican at 704-336-2677 or Crime Stoppers at 704-344-1600.
