Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed and another was wounded Monday night in the University City area.
The initial call about the shooting to 911 came shortly after 7 p.m., a police spokeswoman said. One of the victims told the emergency dispatcher that they were on their way to the hospital after being shot.
The victims arrived at Carolinas Medical Center-University, where staff also notified CMPD officers of the shooting. Both men were in the emergency room with gunshot wounds. One was soon pronounced deceased. The victim’s identity will be released after his family is notified.
The shooting took place in the 10200 block of Berkeley Place, in the University City area near West Mallard Creek Church Road. Homicide detectives are looking for witnesses, CMPD said, and they do not believe the shooting was a random act of violence.
