Authorities: Prison nurse had sex with inmate
Authorities have filed criminal charges against a nurse at Alexander Correctional Institution who they say engaged in an improper sexual relationship with an inmate.
Christine Lawton Grayson, 60, was charged with three counts of sexual act by custodian at a correctional facility, according to the Alexander County Sheriff’s office.
Investigators found that “sexual things had been going on between her and the inmate,” said county Sheriff Chris Bowman. The relationship had apparently been going on for a couple of months, Bowman said.
A traveling nurse, Grayson is currently out on bond. She worked under a temporary contract with the N.C. Department of Public Safety. That six-month contract ended April 30 and was not renewed, a department spokesman said.
Alexander Correctional, a maximum custody state prison that houses about 1,200 inmates, is in Taylorsville, about 60 miles northwest of Charlotte.
