Rescue crews have suspended their search of Lake Norman for a 29-year-old swimmer for the night.

Search teams set up a staging area on Charter Place in Mooresville, NC. Charlotte Fire Department's dive team was also called in to help with the search.

One of the challenges in the search is the murky water in Lake Norman, according to Scott Strickland with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.

Sunday afternoon, there were four people on the boat when the missing swimmer jumped off with two other people. The boat wasn't anchored and started to float away. The three tried to swim and catch up with the boat, but the missing man wasn't able to make it back to the boat.

Witnesses say he went under and officials say strong winds and currents are to blame for him not coming back up.

Despite the use of sophisticated equipment and skilled divers, the search was suspended because of the dark and will resume at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

The swimmer has not been identified.
