A woman died after she was ejected from a speeding three-wheel motorcycle that wrecked on Independence Boulevard near Charlottetowne Avenue early Wednesday.

Paramedics pronounced Traci Elizabeth Gagnon, 34, dead at the scene.

Police arrested William Anthony Short, 44, the operator of the motorcycle, on charges of involuntary manslaughter, felony death by motor vehicle, driving while impaired and having no motorcycle endorsement.

Police arrested Short after he was treated for minor injuries at Carolinas Medical Center.

Police said Short lost control of the 2016 Cam Am Spyder RS motorcycle after it hit a vehicle in the rear shortly before 2:30 a.m.

The motorcycle began to skid, and Short and Gagnon were ejected. Short had a helmet on, while Gagnon was not wearing a helmet, police said. The motorcycle continued traveling and struck a concrete barrier several times before stopping.

The unknown vehicle Short hit drove from the scene, police said.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or police at 704-432-2169.
