Power outage shuts down some rides at Carowinds
Some of the rides at Carowinds theme park were closed for a few hours after a power outage Sunday afternoon.
Duke Energy blamed a bad underground cable for the outage, according to WBTV, the Observer’s news partner.
Shortly before noon the outage stopped rides in a portion of the park, according to Laresa Thompson, a spokeswoman for Carowinds. The affected rides were shut down and guests were evacuated, she said.
A Duke Energy representative said an underground cable had to be repaired and that the power was back on by 2:30 p.m.

Visitor Jason Roncoroni said he arrived at the park around 10:30 a.m. and got on three rides before the power went out for more 90 minutes.
The power came back on for about 30 minutes but was off again by the time he was leaving the park around 2:15, Roncoroni said.
Guests inside the park told WBTV that the park was offering refunds and rain checks for guests wishing to leave for the day. One person waiting in line for a refund said she waited more than 90 minutes to talk to a customer service representative.
