Person recovered in Lake Norman after 10 minutes under water has died

One person has died after drowning in Lake Norman Sunday evening. Officials initially reported that they had rescued the swimmer who was being treated for life-threatening injuries.

The drowning happened in Lake Norman off of Island Forest Drive. Huntersville Fire Department tweeted that the person was recovered after an estimated 10 minutes underwater.

Cornelius police say the person was taken to the hospital after rescue crews cared for the patient on scene. After so many boat related incidents in the past few weeks, officers say this incident did not involve a boat, however it is the third death in Lake Norman in the last week.
