CATS pass-discount fares to rise Friday
Starting Friday, the Charlotte Area Transit System will raise most pass-discount fares to help offset a projected $2.8 million operating budget shortfall for fiscal year 2017.
The changes will include:
▪ Raising the cost of the weekly pass. The pass allows unlimited rides for seven days but costs the same as 10 local rides, $22. The new pass will continue to allow unlimited rides for seven days but will cost the same as 14 local rides, $30.80.
▪ Removing the 15-percent discount on several 10-ride passes. As a result, the 10-ride local pass will increase from $18.70 to $22, the 10-ride express pass from $25.75 to $30 and the 10-ride express plus pass from $37.40 to $44.
The ADA 10-ride pass will keep its 15 percent discount, meaning riders with the pass will continue to pay $9.35.
▪ Eliminating the 20-percent volume discount for organizations at the top tier of the employee transportation coordinator purchase program.
