Charlotte airport sets new local passenger record
Charlotte Douglas International Airport set a local passenger record on June 13 when 30,668 travelers originated their flights at the airport, officials said Thursday.
The previous record was 29,977 on March 24, the start of spring break, airport officials said.
Before that, the day after the Democratic National Convention ended in Charlotte – Sept. 7, 2012 – held the originating passenger record of 29,539.
“Originating passengers” are travelers who began their trip at the airport, using its parking lots and security checkpoints.
Another 100,000 or more fliers connect through Charlotte Douglas each day.
Airport officials said they’re planning for big crowds over the July 4 holiday weekend as well.
