The driver of a 2007 Porsche died after crashing and being thrown from the vehicle early Sunday along the Lynx Blue Line Tracks near Old Pineville Road in southwest Charlotte.

The deceased has been identified as Sergei Vladimirovich Semyrog, 38.

Officers were called to South Boulevard and Freeland Lane around 2:10 a.m. The Porsche was on the train tracks. They found Semyrog on the tracks near Old Pineville Road.

Semyrog was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a report from Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

Investigators reported that Semyrog was traveling north at a high speed in the 4000 block of Old Pineville Road and lost control at a curve near a light rail crossing.

The vehicle ran off the road and struck a post and a fence before coming to a stop on the light rail tracks. The vehicle continued down the tracks for about 750 feet, according to CMPD. The tracks were remained closed for several hours.

Light rail train service was shut down between the I-485 and Scaleybark stations. Bus service was put in place to serve customers until service could resume.
