An 11-year-old girl was struck and killed while attempting to cross West Boulevard on Wednesday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

A Honda Ridgeline driven by Janelle Garcia hit the girl in the westbound left lane at approximately 5:40 p.m., the police report said. Another girl walking with the victim, a relative, was not hurt.

The injured girl was taken to CMC-Main with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at 6:19 p.m., police said.

Garcia, who was not injured, stopped and remained at the scene of the crash until police arrived. The police report said speed and alcohol use were not contributing factors.

The girls were crossing West Boulevard in the 2300 block, not in a marked crosswalk or at an intersection.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to call Detective Sammis at 704-336-8862 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
