Grandson of elderly Rowan County woman found dead charged with murder

The grandson of an elderly woman found dead in Rowan County on Monday has been charged in her death.

Curtis Wayne Trexler, 31, is charged with first degree murder.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Rowan County 911 Center received a call from the 200 block of Ellis Loop Road around 5:07 a.m. Monday morning. The caller said a person was down and needed immediate medical assistance.

When deputies arrived, they found the caller and a deceased elderly woman.

The victim’s name was not released. Deputies have not said who made the 911 call or how the woman died.

Trexler is being held in the Rowan County Jail without bond.
