Two people died this weekend in a head-on crash on a popular cut-through road in Fort Mill.
Robert Starnes, 35, and Renee Graves-Gouyd, 46, both of Charlotte, died at the scene, according to the York County Coroner’s Office.
Altura Road, where the accident happened, is frequently used to travel from Fort Mill to the Rivergate shopping center in southwest Charlotte.
The accident happened at 6:40 p.m. Saturday.
The driver of a 1999 Chevy Suburban heading east on Altura Road crossed over the center line into a westbound 2005 Chrysler 300, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
It was unclear from information provided by the Highway Patrol which driver crossed the center line.
Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles and died at the scene, the Highway Patrol said. The driver of the Suburban was not wearing a seat belt; the driver of the Chrysler was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.
