66-year-old ID'd in deadly wreck in southeast Charlotte
A driver is dead after crashing in southeast Charlotte Monday morning.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say the wreck happened just before 11 a.m. along the 4000-block of Hiddenbrook Drive. Officers say they found a burgundy Lincoln Navigator that had run off the road and struck a utility pole and three large trees.
The driver, later identified as 66-year-old Mauricio Ernesto Escobar, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say Escobar was not wearing his seatbelt and was speeding.
No other vehicles were involved, police say. The case remains under investigation.
