Overnight detours are planned on Interstate 85 in Charlotte next week as part of a new bridge project.
Crews will close I-85 to set girders for a new bridge over the interstate from Ikea Boulevard to IBM Drive, near University City Boulevard. Bridge girders are support beams that help support the bridge deck.
The bridge will provide an alternate to heavily traveled W.T. Harris Boulevard and University City Boulevard, Charlotte transportation officials said.
