A Thursday night shooting in west Gastonia prompted a lock down at CaroMont Regional Hospital for about two hours, reports the Observer’s news partner, WBTV.
That lock down, which saw police officers stationed at entrances, was a safety precaution and was lifted before 11 p.m.
The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. on the 1200 block of Ashton Avenue. The hospital was put on lock down due to the large crowd that arrived in response to the shooting, WBTV reported.
The victim, who has not been identified, suffered a gunshot wound and was later flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with life-threatening injuries. Investigators have not said what may have led to the shooting or if anyone was taken into custody, WBTV said.
