21-year-old charged in May 27 fatal shooting in northeast Charlotte
Police on Tuesday charged a 21-year-old man in the May 27 fatal shooting of Gary Bernard Bynum in northeast Charlotte.
Police responding to a “person down” call found Bynum with a gunshot wound to his head on John Penn Circle near East W.T. Harris Boulevard. Bynum, 34, died at Carolinas Medical Center on June 3.
Jansen Tobias Johnson of Charlotte was charged with murder in Bynum’s killing.
Police are not saying what information and evidence led them to identify Johnson as the suspect. Police also aren’t saying what they believe was the motive behind the shooting.
Johnson voluntarily went to police headquarters earlier Tuesday where he was interviewed, charged and arrested.
