Authorities: Charlotte man posted Facebook video after killing teenage son, injuring ex-wife
A Charlotte man who authorities said admitted in a Facebook video to killing his teenage son and injuring his ex-wife fatally shot himself in a Columbia motel.
Earl Arnold Valentine, 45, died of a gunshot wound to his head late Wednesday in the Days Inn Motel on Plumbers Road, according to an autopsy Thursday morning, Richland County, S.C., Coroner Gary Watts said.
Valentine was suspected of shooting his 15-year-old son and his ex-wife at his ex-wife’s home in Norlina, a town of about 1,100 near the N.C.-Virginia line. Valentine’s ex-wife was hospitalized in serious condition, Watts said.
Valentine’s son called 911 on Tuesday to say his father had shot him, multiple media outlets reported, quoting Norlina police.
In an online video, Valentine said his ex-wife had taken warrants out on him. “I loved my wife, but she deserved what she had coming,” he said. “Pleasure knowing all y’all. I’ve been very sick for months, and this is something I could not help.”
