5 teenagers arrested in Monroe homicide
Five teenagers were arrested and charged with murder and other offenses late Thursday and early Friday in connection with the Aug. 21 fatal shooting of 41-year-old Crisoforo Victorino of Monroe.
Police found Victorino dead of a gunshot wound in his home in the 1000 block of Massey Street.
Police arrested Jamarius Davon Burns, 18, Robert Lee Ashcraft, 17, Jaleel Nivens, 19, Zaire Nakwon Funderburk, 17, all of Monroe, and Jamerik Quanya Garmon, 16, of Albemarle.
Each was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree burglary and felony conspiracy. All five were jailed without bail.
“There was a tremendous amount of work and evidence gathered by our officers who worked tirelessly to track down every and all leads and information related to this case,” Monroe Police Chief Bryan Gilliard said in a statement. “These arrests are a culmination of countless man hours and a dedication of officers to seek justice.”
Special agents with the State Bureau of Investigation assisted in the case, Gilliard said.
