Man charged with accessory after fact in Mount Holly deaths

Darrell Wayne Rivers

Gaston County police have charged a man with being an accessory after the fact of first-degree murder in the deaths of a Mount Holly area woman and her 17-year-old son.

Darrell Wayne Rivers, 39, is the brother of Peter James Rivers Jr., 40, who was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Bridget McCall Berry, 38, and her son, Treyvon “TJ” Berry.

Their bodies were discovered in a house fire Feb. 9 in the 600 block of Ridgewood Court in the Mount Holly area.

Peter Rivers also lived at the home and was in a relationship with Bridget Berry, investigators said, according to the Observer’s news partner, WBTV.

Police arrested Darrell Rivers this week, saying he offered his brother advice and instruction after the deaths on how to avoid apprehension. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police assisted in the arrest.

Gaston County police ask that anyone with information about the case call them at 704-866-3320 or Crime Stoppers of Gaston County at 704-861-8000.
