Alexander County sheriff’s investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying the man who robbed the Bethlehem branch of Taylorsville Savings Bank on Friday.
About 10 a.m., a man wearing a dark ski mask and holding a gun ordered a clerk to put money into a pastel purple fanny pack, Chief Deputy Tod Jones said.
Witnesses described the car in which the man left as a light gray or silver compact sedan, possibly an early 2000 model Volkswagen Jetta, with daytime running lights and a North Carolina registration plate.
The suspect is described as white, possibly in his late 30s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and slim. He also was wearing blue jeans and a gray-hooded sweatshirt.
The vehicle headed south on N.C. 127 toward Catawba County.
Anyone who knows the robber or his whereabouts is asked to call Alexander County Crime Stoppers at 828-632-8555 to provide anonymous information. Tips can also be submitted at www.alexandersheriff.org.
