One dead, one in jail after Concord shooting

Two people were shot and taken to the hospital Saturday night according to Concord police. One of the victims died in the hospital, while the other reportedly suffered minor injuries.

Police say they arrived on Griffin Circle SW Saturday night at 11:08 to find Roddricus Eugene Neal and Shaquil Marquise Watkins in the street suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both were taken to Carolinas Medical Center North East, where Roddricus Neal was pronounced dead.

While investigating, police say they identified a suspect as Frederick Hopper Jr. and had warrants out for his arrest on the charges of murder and attempted murder. Police say Hopper turned himself in during the night.

Hopper was placed in the Cabarrus County Jail.
