A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police helicopter and dog helped officers find and arrest a suspect soon after a Wells Fargo branch in northwest Charlotte was robbed.
The bank was closing for the evening on Friday when a man entered and robbed it. No customers were inside, and no one was injured, police said. The branch is in the 10000 block of Couloak Drive, off Mount Holly-Huntersville Road.
Police quickly apprehended Anthony Lamont Caldwell, 47, of Charlotte. Medic treated Caldwell after the dog bit him in the arm. Police said the injury was minor, and Caldwell was taken to police headquarters for questioning.
Caldwell was then taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. Caldwell was in the Mecklenburg County jail on $225,000 bail Saturday.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
