Salisbury police: Man found dead in car was shot

Salisbury police are investigating the shooting of a man found dead in a car in a ditch Saturday morning at Old Mocksville and Hawkinstown roads.

Miguel Angel Urrutia, 24, of Salisbury was found dead in a black Chrysler 200, police Capt. Shelia Lingle said.

Witnesses told police that a second person was seen leaving Urrutia’s car and getting into another vehicle that then drove away.

At 6:46 a.m., Salisbury police and fire were called to the intersection in reference to a vehicle accident with injury. Police determined the car hadn’t been in a wreck, Lingle said.

“Police detectives are actively following up on leads on the case,” Lingle said Saturday afternoon.

Police ask that anyone with information call them at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245. Callers can remain anonymous on either line, Lingle said.
