One man was arrested after police say he led them on a chase through Mint Hill and Charlotte in a car officers suspect was stolen.
Police identified the driver as 26-year-old Alexander Lee Brown. Mint Hill police say he will face several charges when their investigation is concluded, but have not said what the charges are.
The incident started Tuesday night just before 7 p.m. when someone notified police about a car they suspected was stolen. A Mint Hill police officer got behind the car and started following it, awaiting futher instructions.
The vehicle went into a neighborhood’s cul-de-sac with the officer following, then rapidly accelerated, according to police.
The officer turned on his flashing lights and gave chase as the vehicle traveled on Lawyers Road, into the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s jurisdiction. It struck at least one vehicle as the driver sped away, police said.
The car ultimately crashed at the intersection of Lawyers Road and Idlewild Road North. Police say the driver, later identified as Brown, but was apprehended after a brief foot chase.
Two passengers in the car were detained, but not charged in connection with the car chase. One was arrested for outstanding, unrelated warrants, according to police, who have not released that man’s name. The other was taken to a local hospital to be checked out for what police described as a previous injury.
