Cucumber martini nets Mooresville woman jail sentence
A Mooresville woman who told police she had only one cucumber martini before getting behind the wheel was sentenced to jail for causing a wreck that hurt two people, the (Statesville) Record & Landmark reported.
Erica King consumed a whole lot more alcohol than just a martini before the November 2013 collision on Oak Ridge Farm Highway (N.C. 150 East), a prosecutor said: King’s blood-alcohol content registered .27 percent, more than three times the .08 legal limit for driving, according to the newspaper.
A judge sentenced the 33-year-old to a week and 10 weekends in jail after she pleaded guilty on May 31 to misdemeanor driving while impaired and misdemeanor hit-and-run, court records show.
King was also ordered to undergo six months of alcohol monitoring and attend support meetings, the Record & Landmark reported.
King’s attorney, Mark Childers, told the judge that night changed King’s life. Shortly after the incident, she took the initiative and went to rehab, he said.
“She wasn’t just trying to make herself look good,” Childers said. “She’s still going. This is a lifelong commitment she has, and so far, she’s completed it.”
