South Charlotte woman dies of burns, husband charged with murder
A Charlotte man was arrested and charged with murder on Thursday, five days after his wife died in a hospital from severe burns.
Archie McGill, 47, was burned on May 21 in her home in the 6400 block of Leafcrest Lane, off Archdale Drive.
Police initially charged her husband, 51-year-old Gary James McGill, with attempted murder, malicious use of incendiary device, burning personal property, and carelessness with fire.
Medic took Archie McGill to Carolinas Medical Center. She was later transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, where she died on Saturday.
The Forsyth County Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy and confirmed she died of injuries from the May 21 assault, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said Thursday night.
Police found McGill at a home on Thursday and arrested him on a murder warrant.
