Assistant principal charged with DWI outside school’s graduation ceremony

An assistant principal at Bunker Hill High School in Catawba County was charged with driving while impaired outside the school’s graduation ceremonies on Saturday, the (Newton) Observer News Enterprise reported Monday.

Jonathan Andrew Stiles was arrested after Hickory police accused him of hitting two cars in the parking lot of Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory. Bunker Hill High was holding its graduation at the college.

Stiles failed two field sobriety tests, and he registered a .16 on a Breathalyzer test, according to the newspaper. That’s double the legal limit for driving in North Carolina.

Stiles is free pending a June 26 court appearance, court records show.
