Penny Dunn, assistant police chief in San Marcos, Texas, will replace Jeanne Miller as the town of Davidson’s police chief when Miller retires in July, the town announced on Wednesday.
Davidson conducted an eight-month nationwide search for Miller’s replacement with help from consultant U.S. ISS. The town whittled the field of applicants from 110 to three finalists through interviews and assessments. Dunn starts on July 19.
She began in law enforcement in 1986 and has worked for the San Marcos Police since 1989. She has been a criminal investigator, including narcotics and cold cases, commanded K-9 and other specialized units and worked in employee recruitment.
She received her bachelor of applied arts and sciences from Texas State University, became a certified public manager in 2011 and earned numerous public service awards.
“I look forward to being part of the Davidson community,” Dunn said in a statement released by the town. “I have spent some time with Chief Jeanne Miller to transition into the role and recognize how she has transformed the department – she has such pride in the department and town.”
