DWI suspect in 130-mph crash faces more charges

A DWI suspect in a 130-mph crash that critically hurt a woman on busy Jake Alexander Boulevard in Salisbury faces more charges, police said Friday.

Kendra Rachelle Whitaker, 35, remained at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem on Friday, police said.

Police charged Abraham Teya Morris, 43, of Salisbury, with driving while impaired and driving left of center after Monday’s wreck. On Thursday, police obtained felony warrants also charging Morris with aggravated serious injury by vehicle. Police re-arrested him on Friday morning, and Morris was jailed on $50,000 bail.

Morris is accused of crossing the center line at more than 100 mph and hitting Whitaker head-on, the Salisbury Post reported.
