A 62-year-old man died Tuesday after being struck by a car Monday night on Freedom Drive.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say Larry Irby died as a result of the injuries from the crash.

At 8:29 p.m. Monday, officers responded to reports of a pedestrian being hit by a car in the 3300 block of Freedom Drive near Ashley Road. Medic took Irby to Carolinas Medical Center-Main. He was pronounced dead on Tuesday.

Police say Antrez Guy, 31, was driving a 2001 Mercury southeast on Freedom Drive. As he approached Ashley Road, Irby entered the roadway and was struck by the car. The driver stopped immediately.

Police say speed and alcohol were not factors for the driver, who was wearing his seatbelt. They say it’s unknown if the victim was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
