Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have charged a 22-year-old man in connection with a car theft in east Charlotte.
Police arrested Andre Lamar Hampton and charged him with felony conspiracy. They also served an outstanding warrant against him for common law robbery.
At about 8:30 a.m. Friday, someone went to the Hickory Grove Division team office to report a larceny of a motor vehicle.
She victim told officers that she parked her car and left the key in the ignition with it running to use the ATM in the 5700 block of North Sharon Amity Road.
The victim stated that while she was at the ATM, two men walked by her and one of them got in her car. He motioned for the second to get in, but he did not.
The suspect then drove off with the victim’s vehicle while the second suspect walked away from the scene.
While the victim was speaking with officers, she saw the second suspect walking on North Sharon Amity Road and pointed him out to the officers. As a result, officers took Hampton into custody without incident.
Afterward, officers determined that Hampton had an outstanding warrant for common law robbery. He was taken to the Hickory Grove Division team office where he was interviewed by detectives.
Afterward, he was arrested and charged.
The stolen vehicle has not been found. It is described as a green 1999 Ford Crown Victoria with a North Carolina license plate.
