CMPD: Teen charged with man’s murder
A 17-year-old has been charged with murder in the slaying of a Charlotte man in January, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.
Jawan Tyquan Smith was charged with murder Thursday night, police said. Smith was wanted in connection with the death of William Walter Allen III, 24.
At 11:20 p.m. Jan. 20, police were called to an apartment complex in the 7100 block of Wallace Road off Independence Boulevard and found Allen, who had been shot. Medic took him to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
At 7 p.m. Thursday, police said they had obtained a murder warrant for Smith, and asked for the public’s help in finding him.
They said the teen was considered armed and dangerous.
Shortly before 9 p.m., police said Smith was arrested without incident in the 7300 block of East Independence Boulevard.
Police have not disclosed a motive for the shooting or other details of the case.
