Police on Tuesday issued 16 citations and 35 warning citations against drivers at Charlotte’s most dangerous railroad crossings.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers cited drivers between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Back Creek Church Road at University City Boulevard; Goff Street at Rozzelles Ferry Road; East Hebron Street at South Boulevard; Old Pineville Road at Peterson Drive; Archdale Drive at South Boulevard; and Old Concord Road at McLean Road.

Those crossings have seen the most collisions involving a train and a car or pedestrian over the past five years, according to police.

Officers also issued citations at three railroad crossings with the highest number of non-train crashes, on Clanton, Whitton and Rozzelles Ferry roads.

Sixteen CMPD officers participated in Operation Clear Track, the largest simultaneous railroad safety law enforcement operation ever in the U.S. CMPD officers also distributed 110 rail safety information cards.
