Police make arrest in motel stabbing death

Investigators have charged a man with murder after they say he stabbed a 22-year-old to death druing a fight at a motel off West Sugar Creek Road.

Gregory Richardson, 56, was arrested following a traffic stop in northwest Charlotte. Investigators were looking for his car and had released a video of a man in a convenience store they believe may have been involved in the stabbing of Jovonte Martell-Moss Franks, 22.

Paramedics found Franks dead after the fight at the Brookwood Inn on West Sugar Creek Road shortly after midnight Tuesday.

Police encouraged anyone with information about Franks’ death to call 704-432-TIPS (8477) to speak to a homicide detective. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
