Charlotte-Mecklenburg police seek theft suspect

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the man who broke into a woman’s car in her driveway, stole her purse and some electronic items and then tried to use her debit card at a gas station.

Police on Friday released video surveillance images of a suspect in the case.

The victim’s car was in her driveway in the 2100 block of Pawpaw Lane when it was broken into earlier this week. Pawpaw Lane is off Statesville Road in north Charlotte.

Someone tried to use the woman’s stolen debit card at the Shell gas station at 4601 Statesville Road about 1:30 p.m. Monday, police said.

The suspect is described as a black male, about 5-feet-10 inches tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a black and gray jacket and green pants. He was driving a blue BMW.
