Police soon received a 911 call that a 14-year-old boy had shown up on his own at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center with a gunshot wound.
A vehicle driven by an uninvolved third party also was hit by gunfire, but the occupant was not hurt, Harris said.
CMPD detectives are working to determine a motive.
