Former nurse charged with using elderly patient’s credit card

A former home health care nurse from east Lincoln County has been accused of using an elderly patient’s credit card for months after she was terminated.

Lincoln County sheriff’s investigators charged Carly Buchanan Thorpe, 36, of Denver with three counts of obtaining property by false pretenses. She was arrested Tuesday and is free on $5,000 bail.

Thorpe was a nurse for an 89-year-old woman and was authorized to make purchases on the patient’s credit card, investigators said. But Thorpe continued to make purchases on the card even after she was terminated in November 2014, according to authorities.

Purchases totaling $3,108.07 continued to be made with the card between January and April, authorities said.
