Two people have been arrested after a woman was dragged across the parking lot of the Arboretum Shopping Center in south Charlotte during a carjacking, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.

The woman was walking to her Ford Focus just before 3 p.m. when a man and a woman approached her and took her car keys, police said. They jumped in her car and drove away, but she held on and was dragged for about 30 feet, police said.

She had minor injuries, which were treated at Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville, police said.

Meanwhile, a CMPD officer tried to stop the stolen car on Interstate 485, but the suspects did not stop, police said.

They instead crossed into South Carolina, where they were pursued by CMPD’s helicopter and eventually crashed on Anderson Road in York County, police said.

Melissa Jayne Werts, 31, was ejected from the car, police said. She was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle in South Carolina and has also been charged with common law robbery, police said.

Jason Tyler Mosley, 29, has been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, common law robbery, felony fleeing to elude, reckless driving and other charges, police said.

CMPD will try to get both suspects extradited to North Carolina, the department announced late Monday.
