A 33-year-old man was fatally shot late Monday in the 2300 block of Julia Avenue, off Statesville Avenue in north Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

Police said they applied a tourniquet to the leg of Dalton Dion Hopkins where he’d been shot. Hopkins was then taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later by medical staff.

Hopkins was shot about 11 p.m., and detectives were canvassing the area early Tuesday for any witnesses.

Police ask that anyone with information about the shooting call 704-432-TIPS (8477) and speak directly to a homicide detective, or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

Hopkins was placed on probation in 2000 and 2013 after being convicted both times of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, court records show.
