Casar man charged in thefts from Lincoln County farm

A Casar man has been arrested and charged with stealing cash from his employer, Mitchem Farms in Vale, Lincoln County sheriff’s investigators said Wednesday.

Sheriff’s Detective Lt. Tim Johnson charged Brian Kelly Brackett, 37, with two felony counts each of larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Brackett is accused of taking $1,100 in cash on one occasion and $2,000 in cash another time from a truck at Mitchem Farms on Hallman Mill Road, investigators said.

Carroll Mitchem reported to authorities April 2 that he was having a problem with money being stolen from his vehicle.

Mitchem also reported in March that someone had stolen refrigerators, a water heater and a truck from the farm.

The investigation into the theft of the truck and appliances is continuing, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.

Brackett was jailed on $5,000 bail.
