Iredell authorities charge man with statutory rape

Iredell County authorities have charged a Cleveland man with statutory rape and sex offense charges.

Eric Wayne Brown, 30, was arrested April 23, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said this week. The office received a report April 15 regarding a child under age 16 being sexually assaulted.

The victim said she was sexually assaulted multiple times last year by a family friend, who on one occasion also gave her alcohol.

Brown was charged with three counts of statutory rape and one count of statutory sex offense of a child between 13 and 15 years old.

His bail was set at $200,000, the sheriff’s office said.
