Police search for clues in fatal Monroe shooting
Monroe police are asking for the public’s help in finding the person who fatally shot a 28-year-old man shortly after midnight Saturday morning.
Steven Smith was shot multiple times outside a home in the 300 block of East Green Street, police said.
While responding to the Maurice Street-Green Street area in reference to a gunshot victim, police said they received a call from Carolinas Medical Center-Union regarding a patient with multiple gunshot wounds.
Smith was in critical condition at the hospital and was airlifted to CMC-Main in Charlotte, where he died, police said.
Investigators spoke with witnesses at the hospital and said Tuesday they are still collecting information about the shooting.
