Man arrested in Charlotte for death of slain NC college football player
A man was arrested Wednesday in Charlotte for the January murder of a Winston-Salem State University football player.
The football player, 21-year-old Najee Ali Baker, died on the morning of Jan. 20. He had been shot during an event at Wake Forest University in which several people had gotten into a fight, according to Winston-Salem police.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested 21-year-old Jakier Shanique Austin late Wednesday. Austin was charged with murder, along with felony possession of a stolen firearm and carrying a concealed gun.
Police in Winston-Salem had also previously arrested a teenage boy for his involvement in the case.
Malik Smith, 16, was charged in January with possession of a handgun by a minor, assault by pointing a gun and for possessing a firearm on educational property.
