Three arrested in Denver, N.C., shoplifting case
Three Gaston County residents were arrested Thursday after a shoplifting incident at the Denver Wal-Mart on N.C. 73, Lincoln County sheriff’s investigators said.
Deputies said they went to the store shortly before 1 p.m. after store security reported that a female had been detained and two male suspects were in or near a vehicle in the parking lot.
Officers found William Bryce Black sitting in the back of a green Saturn SUV with a plastic basket containing a number of razor blades and boxes of Goody powders beside him.
Store security told the deputies they had video of Black leaving the the store with the basket and that he’d been with a female, Amanda Jo Eversole, who was in custody in the store.
As deputies interviewed Black, another man, Gary William Cannon, walked up to the vehicle and asked what was going on. He told the officers he was offered $50 to bring the couple to the store from Gastonia.
Black, 49, of Gastonia, was charged with one felony count each of larceny, conspiracy and possession of stolen goods. He was jailed on $10,000 bail.
Cannon, 62, of Belmont, was charged with one felony count each of aiding and abetting and Conspiracy. He was jailed on $5,000 bail.
Eversole, 35, who listed her address as homeless in Gastonia, was charged with conspiracy, larceny and possession of stolen goods. She was jailed on $7,500 bail.
