14-year-old reportedly raped at Mallard Creek High School

A teenager was arrested after a reported rape of a 14-year-old girl that happened inside a Charlotte-Mecklenburg school, according to police.

Jonathan Neal, 18, was arrested Thursday and charged with second-degree rape by force.

The alleged incident happened Thursday at Mallard Creek High School, which is on Johnston Oehler Road in north Charlotte. Police said they were called to the school around 4:09 p.m. on that day.

“I am deeply saddened by the report of an alleged assault of a student at Mallard Creek High School. My thoughts and prayers are with the student and family members impacted by this situation,” CMS Superintendent Ann Clark said in a statement Monday afternoon.

Clark’s statement continued, “There is nothing more important than the safety of our students and staff. I take this incident and any issues involving student safety in our schools very seriously. I am grateful to our law enforcement partners for swiftly apprehending the alleged perpetrator.”

Clark said that “CMS will continue to provide any support needed by law enforcement to pursue this case to the fullest extent of the law,” but could not give further details about the incident since it is an active investigation.
